A few notes about how this tournament works: The tournament is designed to be competitive but not overly stressful. We will follow NMJL tournament rules but with fewer penalties. Our rules will be enforced. (They will also be spelled out ahead of time so that you are clear about what to expect.) We will run four(4) 70 minute rounds with 4 games each.

70 minute rounds mean that there is time pressure but not so much that players who practice and get ready for tournament play can’t get 4 rounds in within the allotted time (note: many tournaments run at 55-60 minutes for 4 rounds). This extra time is our way of welcoming novice tournament players.

Designated “first east” players, our Dragon Ladies, will remain at their tables throughout the four rounds. All other players will rotate to a new table after each round. It is our intention to structure these rotations based on self reported “preferred speed of play”. This rotation plan is our way of placating our faster, more experienced & practiced players by lessening the concern that their tournament play will be affected by being placed at a table with mostly first-time players.

We believe this plan serves both groups equally well and we look forward to your feedback about it on our post-tournament survey.We sincerely hope to inspire your love for tournament style mahjong! As your game improves, so will ours. At future tournaments, we will up the stakes, cut the time, and offer cash prizes.
